Building Fair and Equitable Employee Compensation with GoodUnited

GoodUnited uses conversational messaging, technology, and human insight to help nonprofits acquire and activate supporters, build personal relationships at scale, and grow revenue in social channels.

01 / Challenge

The thought of never having to manually run a compensation review again was too enticing for Bill and his team, who took Lattice up on the challenge. “It was two and a half months from signing the contract to running a full 360-degree and compensation review. It's something that was very well received by our organization and that our team was proud to put our name on. Had you told me in November that we were going to complete a full 360-degree review with almost no hiccups by February, I would've told you ‘there's no way,’” exclaims Bill.

02 / Implementation

To further benefit employees, the company also rolled out Lattice Grow to help add transparency and clarity around career and growth opportunities within the organization — an addition that was highly sought after by employees. “We didn’t have anything in place before Grow, which was one of the biggest pain points of our team members. We had high performers who didn’t know where they were going in the organization, how to get there, or even how they were being evaluated,” says Bill. “Team members had to take the company's word that as they grew roles would be created or opened up within the organization. It made it hard for team members to visualize how to grow within the company.”

03 / Reported outcomes

Thanks to Lattice, GoodUnited employees now have a holistic view of not only their individual performance, but also the career opportunities available to them within the organization. “Lattice has done a phenomenal job of helping us create clarity and transparency in team members' lives. Our employees now have a way to see where they stand and how they can grow within the organization,” says Bill. “They also have multiple channels they can use to give feedback to other team members and the organization as a whole, so we can all continue to get better together,” he adds. While Lattice has clearly made an impact on GoodUnited employees, Bill and his team have also benefited immensely from the platform.…

“Lattice Compensation offered a world-class solution that consolidated all of our processes into one place, pulling in employee performance data to create a structure that allows for increased clarity and transparency around compensation cycles”

01 / Challenge

This was the challenge for Cahill Contractors LLC, a majority family- and woman-owned general contractor in the Bay Area. With seasonal work and frequently changing project teams, Cahill has an uphill battle creating a seamless employee experience for their 250 office-based staff and on-site laborers, carpenters, and engineers.

03 / Reported outcomes

Megan and Jordyn have been able to track the results of their improved onboarding program with Lattice. Their onboarding survey shows that 92% of new hires found the onboarding enjoyable and valuable.

“If people are good, we want to keep them. We use Lattice surveys, regular meetings, and Lattice one-on-ones to know what people’s goals are and help them to develop. If you’re a carpenter today, do you want to be a superintendent? What skills and skills-based training would you need?”

Establishing Performance Processes To Achieve High Standards With Future

Future is redefining the relationship between gym-goer and coach, and they are leveraging Lattice's performance reviews to make that possible.

"We were using a fully manual process that required us to copy over questions to individualized documents that we would share with individual employees," Kevin says. "Personalizing each document was a slow and time-consuming process, and then we had to send them out and make sure that the privacy settings were right for each one."

03 / Reported outcomes

Armed with this knowledge, and facing a hard end-of-quarter deadline, Future began to look for software to improve their processes. It didn't take them long to find Lattice. Both Kevin and senior manager Elisha Voren were immediately impressed with Lattice's scalable performance reviews, especially its robust analytics and support for automated templates. A vital process that had once taken a matter of hours could now be achieved four or five times faster thanks to Lattice. Kevin particularly cites the ability to easily see the results of previous performance reviews as an important part of Lattice.

“If a coach has a series of high-grade performance reviews, how do we continue to build on top of that? Lattice not only stores that information, but it allows us to develop those standards over time, which is exactly what we were looking for.”

In each engagement survey , GoGuardian asks its employees to describe their experience in three words. Last quarter, employees said the corporate culture was exciting, rewarding, fun, meaningful, fulfilling, supportive, engaging, innovative, and inspiring. While maintaining a positive corporate culture is important for the HR team, the company is also in a hypergrowth phase, growing from 200 to 700 employees over the last few years, and is focused on engaging and retaining talent. “People are our greatest resource and developing them is key to a business’ success,” said Lisuzzo. “In most businesses, 50% of your cost is employee salaries, and so developing people is critical to ensuring the business is a long-term success.…

02 / Implementation

The company is in the process of getting Grow further implemented across teams, and by the end of the year will be asking managers to have a development plan in place for every employee.

03 / Reported outcomes

As a result of using Lattice engagement surveys, GoGuardian listened to employee feedback and implemented many benefits, including increased 401(K) matching, extending a generous parental leave, and introducing professional development tools and programs online such as LinkedIn Learning and Thrivepass. The company has also instituted quarterly wellness days where the entire company closes down and everyone can take the time to recharge. In addition, career development has been better communicated. With well-articulated job tracks, employees can clearly see the expectations and requirements for different roles across the company. This is beneficial for both managers and employees.…

“One of the greatest benefits of Lattice is the ability to funnel this information upward and do so in an aggregated way, where the answers are anonymized so employees can provide their true feelings and feel safe doing it.”

How AllTrails forged its path to better engagement at scale

01 / Challenge

With a fast-growing global team, AllTrails struggled to keep onboarding and engagement consistent. Lattice provided the structure to align new hires, track growth, and strengthen the culture that keeps employees connected to the mission.

02 / Implementation

As a result, AllTrails quickly rolled out Lattice Feedback to give employees a way to share and collect helpful feedback in real-time. But even that wasn’t enough for Doreen and her team. After creating a culture of continuous feedback, they went a step further to build a culture of celebration using Lattice Praise . Employees could publicly share positive feedback and showcase their colleagues’ many accomplishments with the entire company via Lattice’s integration with Slack .

03 / Reported outcomes

Since partnering with Lattice, AllTrails has routinely surpassed Lattice’s survey participation benchmarks. When we asked her to share the secret behind these exceptional results, Doreen modestly attributes the success to her employees. “I'd love to take credit for all of it, but I think it's just all cultural,” she reveals. “We've invested a lot of time in all of our recruiting efforts and made sure we're bringing in the right people who are going to get excited about these types of things. We're seeing it pay off.” Employees have also driven the success of another Lattice feature: Praise . At AllTrails, celebrating big wins publicly is a major part of the company culture, so the introduction of Lattice Praise was met with a warm embrace.…

“When somebody gives really good positive feedback using Praise, it almost always sets off a chain reaction throughout the day. Once one person does it, there'll be five others who give shoutouts because it becomes top of mind again. That's definitely been a huge, delightful side effect of the feedback functionality.”
